PRIMARIA WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO BLACKMAIL FROM THE SIDE OF MARSHROUTKA OWNERS – CHISINAU MAYOR

24 february, 2020

Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban stated that the city government will not allow being dictated by blackmailing from the side of some owners of marshroutkas [fixed-route minibuses], who demand the raising of tariffs to 10 lei from 3.

Ceban said at the Monday’s sitting of municipal services that minibuses working on 19 routes were working on Monday morning, while those at 24 routes went on temporary strike.

“The minibuses, which stopped work, belong to a well-known person – Iurie Topala, [former director of the National Railroad Company of Moldova], as well as to Oleg Alexa and Nicolae Seredneac. I ask investigation bodies to inquire in the activities of these people, as they are just getting money, but not provide transportation services at a proper level”, the mayor said.

Ceban made an official request to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Anti-Corruption Center and the Anticorruption Prosecution Service on the three owners of route lines, which went on strike. Also, he asked city deputy mayors and the Primaria Legal Department to start the procedure of disrupting the contract with these persons.

The mayor thanked drivers, who came to work this morning, and brought apologies to citizens for the inconveniences. He maintains that the city people should be on the side of the Primaria, as it is unacceptable to tolerate the blackmailing and mockery from the side of certain interested groups of individuals.
