POLITICAL INSTABILITY TO BECOME SERIOUS CHALLENGE FOR MOLDOVA - FOREIGN MINISTER

01 july, 2020

Political instability may become one of the serious-most challenges for Moldova in the present period of time, Moldova's Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Tulea stated in the course of an online debate called "The Eastern Partnership after 2020" held today.

The Moldovan Minister said that the 6 years after the conclusion of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement were a period very complicated for Moldova from the political point of view, which included the one-billion-dollar bank fraud, cancellation of Chisinau mayoral election, and other events that compromised the Moldova-EU relationship.

"But there were also positive moments and events. Moldova used to be called a 'success story' in the Eastern Partnership. And despite a certain regress in this afterwards, the republic has approached the European Union", said Oleg Tulea.

In his words, the Association Agreement agenda is becoming not just an instrument of modernization of the country - it is becoming a lever for the unification of progressive forces interested in reforms.

"The forces that want to overcome the influence of those groups which stand up against modernization, which do not want to lose control over the judiciary system, over profitable economic spheres, and which are against the investigation of the bank fraud", said Oleg Tulea.
