MOLDOVA REGISTERS DEFLATION FOR THREE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS
Deflation has been registered in Moldova for the third month in a row. Prices in August decreased by 0.78% on average against 0.23% deflation in July. The cumulative inflation rate since the beginning of 2020 has reached 0.05%, and the annual rate has reached 3.45%, thereby leaving the National Bank's target corridor of 5% +/- 1.5%.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), deflation was facilitated by both, a seasonal decline of food prices, which fell by 1.13% over the month, and for non-food products (-0.3%) and services (-0.94% ).
Infotag's dossier: In August 2019, Moldova also experienced deflation - 0.03%, and by the end of the year - 7.5%. For 2020, the National Bank expects the consumer price index within 3.5%.
