MOBILE INTERNET SERVICES CONSUMPTION INCREASES DESPITE DECREASE IN NUMBER OF USERS IN MOLDOVA

Consumption of mobile Internet services in Moldova in the II quarter increased against the background of a decrease in the number of users and the total volume of revenues from these services.

As the regulator's data show, the traffic generated by users of mobile Internet access services (3G, 4G and dedicated access via modems / routers) increased by 46.2%. It amounted to 35.5 million GB.

Of the total traffic, 18.7 million GB (+ 53.8%) was traffic generated through smartphones, and 16.8 million GB (+ 38.5%) - through dedicated access.

A user connected to the mobile Internet via a smartphone generated an average monthly traffic (AUPU) of about 3.1 GB (+ 52.1%), and to the dedicated mobile Internet - 25.7 GB (+ 51.6%).

The total number of users connected to the mobile Internet has decreased since the beginning of the year by 11.5% - to 2.1 million. At the same time, 213.4 thousand of them are users of dedicated mobile Internet access services (via modems / routers).

As a result of such dynamics, the penetration rate of mobile broadband Internet access services consisted in 79.8%, and of dedicated mobile Internet access - in 8.1%.

The total volume of revenues from the sale of mobile Internet access services decreased by 4.7% compared to the second quarter of the last year, to 286.6 million lei. The average monthly income per subscriber (ARPU) was 88.5 lei (+ 7.4%), and from mobile Internet access services via smartphones - 38.4 lei (- 6.5%).

The market shares of suppliers were for Orange Moldova - 62.5%, for Moldcell - 29% and for Moldtelecom - 8.5%.
