MOLDOVAN JUSTICE MINISTER AND FRENCH AMBASSADOR DISCUSS JUDICIARY REFORM IN RM

15 september, 2020

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Pascal Le Deunff, discussed the judiciary reform progress in RM with Moldovan Minister of Justice Fadei Nagacevschi, reported the Embassy of France.

According to it, the diplomat called the minister to proceed with the reform and achieve consensuses in various directions: adoption of a constitutional reform on the Superior Council of Magistracy personal composition; adoption of strategy and action plan on the judiciary reform; improvement of the conditions of the attestation of judges.

The French Ambassador stated his country is ready to continue, within the European Union frame, cooperation and support for the realization of the judiciary reform to help create an independent and honest justice system in this republic.

Ambassador Pascal Le Deunff expressed concern that Moldova citizens are disappointed that some people with doubtful reputations are returning to the judiciary system. This trend may cast doubt on the sincerity of official statements concerning the country leadership’s commitment to realization of this essential reform, the French Embassy wrote in its press release.

Pascal Le Deunff also stressed in his talk with Fadei Nagacevschi that France attaches a high importance to ratification by Moldova of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence [aka the Istanbul Convention]. Earlier, the official Chisinau promised to ratify that document.
