PASSENGERS TRANSPORTATIONS FALL ALMOST BY HALF IN MOLDOVA
In January-July, public transport enterprises of the Republic of Moldova carried more than 4.2 million passengers, which is by 48.3% less than for the same period of 2019. According to the Bureau of Statistics, the greatest decline was within air transport, which carried over seven months 22 thousand of passengers - 10.9% of the last year's level.
The virus pandemic also negatively affected cargo transportation, which fell by 13.7% to less than 8.5 million tons. The bulk of cargo was transported by road transport - over 6.7 million tons (-6.1%). And the biggest decline is on the railroad, by 36%, to 1.7 million tons.
The cargo turnover situation also leaves much to be desired. By the beginning of August, it amounted to 2.548 billion tons / km (-9%).
