GOVERNMENT TRANSFERS 148 MLN LEI TO ACCOUNTS OF FARMERS AFFECTED BY DROUGHT AND HAIL

More than 680 agricultural producers to whose accounts 147.68 million lei (US $ 8.7 million) were transferred, received compensation from the state for crop losses due to drought and hail. These data were announced yesterday at a meeting of the parliamentary commission on agriculture and food industry.

According to the information submitted by the Ministry of Agriculture, the government will provide compensation due to the alleged loss for 191.6 thousand hectares of grain of the first group, including for 151.6 thousand hectares of winter wheat, 23.5 thousand hectares of barley, 11.6 thousand hectares of rapeseed and 4.9 thousand hectares of reseeding.

Compensation will also be allocated for 627.7 hectares of orchards, 90.2 hectares of vineyards, 17.8 hectares of open field vegetable plantations, and 120.9 hectares of peas affected by hail.

According to representatives of the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA), a total of 2,269 agricultural producers will receive compensation. On the moment, the agency has received 1455 applications, of which 1430 relate to compensation for losses of grain of the first group, affected by drought, and 25 – to compensation for crop losses from hail. The amount of the requested compensations constitutes 289.6 million lei.

Acceptance of applications for compensation for crop losses due to the consequences of natural disasters began on August 10. According to the government decree, compensation is paid to applicants whose damage due to drought - grain crops of the first group and hail - fruit plantations and peas, exceeded 60%.
