EU HELPS MOLDOVA WITH ADAPTION TO CLIMATE CHANGE

23 september, 2020

A website with information on climate policy and legislation in Eastern Partnership countries, including Moldova was launched as a part of the EU-funded project EU4Climate.

According to the Eastern Neighbourhood website, in addition to the latest news in this area, the portal also posts data on the main emission industries in target countries, greenhouse gas emission levels and government measures to reduce the negative impact on climate change.

The EU4Climate initiative was launched in response to the real threats of climate change to help Eastern partner countries to develop and implement climate policies based on their commitments under the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change, the Association Agreements with the EU, the 20 achievable results for 2020 of the Eastern Partnership (in particular the results 15 and 16) and the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030.

"The launch of the www.eu4climate.eu allows to create a comprehensive portal on the topic that requires constant efforts and commitments on the part of governments as well as agents in all sectors of the society," said EU4Climate regional manager Eugen Groza.

According to the website, Moldova with a population of less than 3.15 million people (2019) contributes only 0.026% to total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and is in the lower range of per capita emissions with a total of 2.13 million tons of CO2. Of all amount, 31% of these emissions is produced in energetic, 16.7% - in agriculture, 16.3% - in transportation industry.
