PUTIN SAYS MOLDOVAN ECONOMY IS SO TIED UP WITH RUSSIA THAT IT CANNOT EXIST INDEPENDENTLY, SO FAR

23 octomber, 2020

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the Moldovan economy is so hard-wired to Russia that it cannot exist independently, so far. Putin stated this in his 3-hour-long address to the Thursday’s meeting of the International Discussion Club “Valdai”, in which he inter alia touched on the developments in Moldova taking place in the lead up to the November 1 presidential election.

“We see what is happening around Moldova, and we know the Moldovan people’s needs in the development of democracy and economy. But who buys Moldovan wines? Will France buy Moldovan wines?.. And the thing is not only in wines. Other Moldovan economy sectors are so hard-wired with Russia that they simply cannot exist without it, at least for the time being. The Moldovan production is in demand nowhere except at the Russian market. And we hope very much that at the forthcoming election the Moldovan people will pay tribute to the efforts being made by the republic’s incumbent President to build relations with Russia”, said Vladimir Putin.

Infotag's dossier: The Russian Federation is the 3rd largest importer of Moldovan wines. In 2019, Romania accounted for 13.8% Moldovan wine imports (6 million liters), Poland – 12.8% (5.63 million liters), and Russia – 12.7% (5.6 million liters).
