BUDGET-21 STIPULATES CAPITAL INVESTMENT GROWTH BY 7 BILLION LEI – PREMIER CHICU

06 november, 2020

The parameters of the draft of Moldova’s State Budget for 2021, agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund, stipulate a growth of capital investment by 7 billion lei, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated on the Moldova-1 public television channel on Thursday night.

The Premier said the Government is ready to fulfill the IMF’s latest conditions for signing a 3-year-long Program of cooperation with the Fund worth US$550 million.

“Everything is ready with us – the draft State Budget for 2021, the draft fiscal and customs policies. Also, the Government has approved and passed to the Parliament the draft Law on the consolidation of the National Bank’s independence”, said Ion Chicu.

In his words, after November 15 the Parliament will approve these Laws and will decide concerning the appointment of three Vice Presidents of the National Bank. The Prime Minister expressed hope that in early December the IMF Executive Board will approve the new Program of cooperation with Moldova.

“The availability of the new Program will permit us to receive from the IMF already by the end of 2020 the first tranche to an amount of US$80 million, which money has been projected in the 2020 State Budget. These means should help the Government to maintain the tempo of investment in infrastructural projects essential for the national economy”, said the Prime Minister.
