MFA HEAD NICU POPESCU APPOINTED CO-CHAIRMAN OF MOLDO-RUSSIAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) Nicu Popescu has been appointed as the new co-chairman of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. Such a decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday.

“In the context of the approval of the new government, it became necessary to specify the nominal composition of the mixed intergovernmental commissions on cooperation in trade and economic relations. It is proposed to approve the new composition of the Moldovan-Russian commission, the co-chairman will be the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Nicolai Popescu. The next meeting of the commission will take place in Moscow,” stressed the Minister of Economy, Sergiu Gaibu.

Earlier, the Minister of Economy was traditionally appointed as the co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission from Moldova. For a long time, the co-chairman of the commission from Russia was Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin. After the Moldovan authorities declared him persona non grata in the country in July 2017, the commission stopped meeting. After Rogozin, this post on the part of Russia was taken by the Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev. In 2019, the co-chairman from Moldova was the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Vasile Shova, and in 2020-21. - Minister of Agriculture Ion Perju.
