GOVERNMENT GAVE NEGATIVE OPINION ON OPPOSITION'S INITIATIVE ON DUTY-FREE EXPORT OF GOODS FOR DIASPORA REPRESENTATIVES

14 january, 2022

The Government has given a negative conclusion to the initiative of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists on customs privileges for representatives of the diaspora, returning to the homeland. According to the draft law, it was proposed to allow one-time duty free import of goods of personal consumption into Moldova, including one vehicle per family that worked abroad and returns to Moldova permanently. Such exemption from customs duties was proposed by the Socialists and Communists deputies as a one-time exemption. The government noted in its decision that, according to the Constitution, citizens of the country are obliged to participate in public expenditures through taxes and levies. Also, the government's assessment of the impact of this initiative on the national state budget showed that it would reduce budget revenues by more than 1 million lei per year, which would require a revision of the budget law.
