MOLDOVAN GOVERNMENT HAS NO INFORMATION THAT IMF HAS POSTPONED PROGRAM APPROVAL UNTIL NOVEMBER – PREMIER FILIP

20 octomber, 2016

Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip maintains he has no information that the International Monetary Fund will be not able to adopt before the end of October the new Program of cooperation with the Government and the National Bank of Moldova. The Program approval was initially scheduled for the October 19 Meeting of the IMF Board of Directors.

Asked by your Infotag correspondent if the IMF really postponed the Program approval, the Prime Minister replied: “Where did you get this information from?” The correspondent then asked again: “Do you really have no such information, Mr. Prime Minister?”

Filip replied: “I am stating to you with full responsibility that this information is not true” without commenting on the situation with approval of the Program in Washington, but his entire behavior produced an impression that the Program will be adopted in the nearest future.

As already reported by Infotag, the Government of Moldova sent to Washington DC a package of all necessary documents, including several very important laws, in the first days of October in the hope that the new cooperation Program would be approved before the October 19 Meeting of the IMF Board. Designed for 3 years, the Program stipulates financial support totaling US$180 million for the Government’s reforms and the National Bank’s policies.
