​AVERAGE PENSION SIZE IN MOLDOVA GREW ONLY BY US$5.5 IN 2016

The average size of pensions in Moldova accounted for 1275 lei (US$63.6) as of January 1, growing only by 110 lei over a year.

According to the National Social Insurance Fund (CNAS), in total 691 people are receiving pensions, including 531.8 thousand – retirement pensions. Their social payments are lower than the subsistence wage and account for 1301.14 lei. The average size of disability pension is even smaller – 1018 lei. More than 132.9 thousand people with disabilities benefit from this.

The highest pensions are paid to some workers of civil aviation – almost 7 thousand lei. However, only 617 people are receiving so enviable pensions.

The lowest pension – survivor’s pension accounts for 670 lei. More than 14.2 thousand people are receiving these.

The amount of minimal pension varies between 459 lei (less than US$23) for the disabled of the 3rd group, to 948.84 lei – for beneficiaries of old age pensions (except agricultural workers – 844.71 lei). The CNAS does not specify how many people are receiving such pensions, the size of which is enough for only one trip to supermarket.
