​CURRENCY SUPPLY COVERED DEMAND BY 94.6% IN DECEMBER

Economic agents’ demand for foreign currency in December 2016 was covered by its supply from physical persons by 94.6% in December against 81.6% in November.

According to the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), net supply of foreign currency from physical persons remained almost unchanged, growing by US$1 million (0.9%) – to US$112.2 million, while economic agents’ net demand for foreign currency has considerably fallen by 17.7 million (13%) – to US$118.6 million.

In such conditions, the average exchange rate of Moldovan leu against the US dollar has slightly depreciated – by 0.5% – to 20.1578 lei per US$1.

The biggest share in foreign currency net supply belongs to the Euro – 55.1% (+3.7%), the US dollar – 25.4% (-4.8%) and Russian rubles – 17.1% (+1.3%).
