MOBIASBANCA PRESIDENT RIDHA TEKAIA GIVES FAREWELL PARTY

22 february, 2017

The example of the French Groupe Societe Generale, which has been pleased with its investments made in the Moldovan bank Mobiasbanca 10 years ago, proves that Moldova can be attractive for investors. The statement was made by Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip at a farewell party given by the president of Mobiasbanca Groupe Societe Generale, Ridha Tekaia, at the end of his five-year mandate in Moldova.

The reception was attended by over 250 guests, including the head of the Europe region, International Banking and Financial Services division of Societe Generale, Gianluca Soma, the regional director Balcani IBFS, Jean Philippe Guillaume, the chairman of the bank's council and deputy director of BRD Didier Colin, state officials, diplomats and clients.

In his speech, Pavel Filip highly appreciated Ridha Tekaia's activities as a banker and as president of the Foreign Investors Association.

Gianluca Soma said that Ridha Tekaia has been a "great captain of a great team". He expressed confidence that the new chairman of Mobiasbanca, Antoine Gabizon, who had worked in Georgia, Ukraine and Romania, will continue Tekaia's "great job".

For his part, the president of the National Bank of Moldova, Sergiu Cioclea, said that Mobiasbanca was a stable and profitable bank and one of the few banks that has a very low rate of low performing loans.

In his speech delivered in English, Sergiu Cioclea welcomed the fact that many Moldovan managers are working in Mobiasbanca team.

The NBM Governor said that he appreciated Ridha Tekaia for being a "trouble maker".

"Every time I received a letter from Mr. Tekaia, it contained complaints that there is too much bureaucracy and too many useless regulations in this country. I have to say that we appreciate these troubles because they force us to think what we have to do in order to improve the situation and encourage good, honest and clean banks to come to Moldova," Sergiu Cioclea said.

In his speech, Ridha Tekaia thanked the Moldovan government led by Prime Minister Filip for its "real and efficient support each time it was possible".

He expressed gratitude to the NBM team for its efforts to engage courageous and deep reforms to adjust the Moldovan banking sector and diplomatic institutions, in particular the head of the EU delegation to Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola, and French ambassador Pascal Vagogne for supporting many of his initiatives.

Warm words of gratitude were said to the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank for "financing ambitious projects necessary to foster the local economy".

“During these five years, I enjoyed being in Moldova... My conclusion after five years will be: "the more you criticize, the more you like". So let's criticize Moldova to help this country to improve, to keep this internal energy and enthusiasm and to keep its most valuable assets - its wonderful people,” Ridha Tekaia said.

Infotag’s dossier: Ridha Tekaia has headed Mobiasbanca since May 2012. He will continue his activities within Societe Generale in La Reunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean.
