EX-PREMIER IURIE LEANCA SAYS HE IS MOST INTERESTED IN SUCCESS OF BANK FRAUD INVESTIGATION

28 december, 2017

Former Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in an interview to Radio Free Europe that the investigation of the American Agency will help answering to all the questions about the theft of the century: how the machination was implemented, who were beneficiaries of credits and the most important – how to return the stolen money.

“I often hear people saying I was involved in this fraud due to the credits, issued to problematic banks (Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank) under Government guarantees, but at that moment this was the only possible decision, it was about the threat of failure of the entire banking system, while together with it the country’s economy”, said the leader of the EPPM, nominated for the post of Deputy Premier by the ruling coalition.

He reminded that he was one of the first to insist on inviting the Kroll company, immediately after the NBM provided credits.

“It is expected that in January Kroll will present a more detailed report on stealing the billion to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which will become a great step forward in the investigation”, Leanca said.

According to him, so far the money is going back to the budget only due to the selling of problematic bank assets, but the main goal is to return to Moldova the money, withdrawn abroad.

“However, this should be done as fast and efficiently as possible, as it is about the rehabilitation of Moldova’s international image”, the politician concluded.
