The Republic of Moldova and Romania have made an important step towards integration of their energy complexes to achieve interconnection of their electricity and gas networks. Moldova has announced winner of the investment competition for the right to obtain the State-owned enterprise VestMoldTransGaz – the operator of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline being built here. The winner is the Transgaz fuel transportation company of Romania.

Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip said at the press briefing he gave together with Romanian Prime Minister Vasilica-Viorica Dancila here on Tuesday evening: “Transgaz investments will permit us to diversify natural gas sources. As Romania is a European Union member country, the unification of our energy systems will mean our joining the European energy system”.

The purchasing of the said Moldovan asset involved Transgaz’ daughter company – EuroTransGaz specializing in the production, transportation, distribution, storing and supplying of natural gas.

The building project completion will mean unification of the energy markets of EU member countries with Eastern Partnership member countries and ensuring of the security of gas supplying to the region. Presently, Moldova is 100% dependent on the fuel supplied by the Russian Gazprom Concern.
