BANKRUPT BANKS COVERED ONLY 1,101 MILLION OF THE RECEIVED CREDITS OVER 2.5 YEARS

Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank managed to return since the time of recalling their licenses (16.10.2015) till early March 2018 only slightly more than 1,101 million lei from the credits worth 14,122 million, provided to them by the National Bank under governmental guarantees within November 2014 through October 2015.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the BEM returned to the state 338.04 million lei of the received 9,273 million, Banca Sociala - 459.84 million lei of 2.7 billion, while Unibank - 303.2 million lei of 2,148 million.

With all this, banks that suffered from the theft of the century and withdrawal of over US$1 billion as a result of fraudulent transactions managed to recover 1,036 million lei as a result of recovery of debts from their clients (587.02 million), selling of banks' own assets (174.54 million) and the assets the banks received in property from debtors (91.68 million), as well as other procedures, such as writs of execution, bankruptcy procedures and others (183 million).

As Infotag has already reported, after the stealing of the billion it was transferred into the state debt, which the opposition and personally president, ex-head of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon, stand against. The investigation of the stealing of the billion is conducted by Moldovan law enforcement agencies and financial detectives from the American agency Kroll. According to the latter, as a result of fraudulent transactions, at least US$600 million were transferred from BEM, BS and Unibank abroad, including US$200 million - to Russia, US$58 million - to Estonia, US$41 million - to Cyprus. This money should be returned to Moldova via courts.
