WORKING PENSIONERS' PENSIONS WILL BE RECALCULATED TOWARDS INCREASE

11 june, 2018

The pensions of those people, who worked or are still continuing to work after their reaching the retirement age, will be recalculated to be increased, as per the bill approved by the Moldovan Government last Friday.

First and foremost, corresponding agencies will recalculate pensions established before January 1, 1999. Starting from January 1, 2019, pensions will be recalculated for persons whose length of service exceeds 15 years, and from January 1, 2020 - for those under 15 years. For all the rest (who went on pension before January 1, 2019), pensions will be recalculated stage by stage - in a period between 2021 and 2027.

In 2019, pensions will be re-counted for 2.5 thousand people, whose pensions will go up 2.4-fold - from av. 2,048 lei (US$121.7) a month up to 4,770 lei. In the year 2020, recalculation will cover 5,500 people with an analogous increase - from av. 1,900 lei to 3,765 lei. The bill stipulates that a person may apply for a pension recalculation only once.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip remarked in this connection: "Quite many citizens continued working not because they liked it but because they had to - due to generally small pensions in the country. So, if a person continued working and was paying taxes, it will be normal to have his or her pension recalculated towards an increase".
