GOVERNMENT TO START NEGOTIATIONS ON DRAFT AGREEMENT ON TECHNICAL BARRIERS IN TRADE IN CIS

The Moldovan Government will start negotiations on the draft Agreement on technical barriers in trade between CIS member countries. A corresponding decision was taken at the Wednesday's Government sitting.

The cabinet of ministers also approved a nominal membership of official delegation, which will be holding negotiations. It will be headed by Economy Ministry State Secretary (in the field of international quality and cooperation infrastructure) Iuliana Dragalin.

The draft agreement contains 14 articles, which regulate the possibility of recognizing the results of assessing the compliance of products, manufactured in the CIS. The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure says that the concluding of this agreement will contribute to activation of cooperation between the Commonwealth countries, as well as will ensure presence of products from CIS on market.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the decision on conducting negotiations on the Agreement on recognizing the results of accrediting the agencies for assessing the compliance of products, issued in the CIS.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), over 5 months of 2018, the Moldovan exports to the CIS fell 0.2% against the equivalent period of last year - to US$177.5 million, while the share of CIS countries in the total volume of Moldovan exports fell to 16.1% against the 20.8% in January-May 2017. The cost of the imported goods from the CIS countries in January-May 2017 accounted for US$533 million, which is 17.5% more than in the equivalent period of the previous year, while the CIS share in the total volume of Moldovan imports fell to 23.4% of the total volume against 25.3% in January-May 2017.
