DEFLATION REGISTERED IN MOLDOVA FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH
Prices in Moldova keep falling for already the second consecutive month. In August, these shrank by on average 0.2% against 1.2% in July.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) the negative index of the consumer prices is registered year to date as well - 0.6%. The annual inflation (August 2015 through August 2016) accounted for 3.2%, which does not meet the NBM target of 5% В± 1.5%.
The August deflation was primarily due to seasonal decline of food products prices - on average by 0.3%. Services cheapened by 0.2%, while prices on non-food products remained unchanged.
Infotag's dossier: In August 2017, 0.4% deflation was registered in Moldova. The annual inflation accounted for 7.3%. For 2018, the National Bank of Moldova was initially forecasting inflation within 4%, but has revised it three times; within the latest revision the forecasts were lowered to 3.2%.
