15 octomber, 2018

The Summa Company of Turkey is promising to commission the Arena-Chisinau multifunctional sportive complex by November 2019, its President Mr. Selim Bora stated last Sunday at the ceremony of launching the building works.

In his words, the state-of-the-art facility will consist of the main sportive arena that will accommodate up to 4 thousand viewers, a sporting hall for athletes' training and for holding moderate-size tournaments and other events, an Olympic-size swimming pool, an aqua park and a tennis club. There will also be an open-air swimming pool to work in summer, and in winter it will be a skating rink.

Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu stated at the ceremony that Arena-Chisinau is the most ambitious project in Moldova since its independence.

"We are promoting this project because this is only how we can ensure proper conditions for preparing professional athletes and for the organization of international sportive and other competitions and cultural events", said the Parliament Chairman.

Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici emphasized the importance of Arena-Chisinau for Moldova. He said the complex is a project of national importance that will be promoting the development of sports and Moldova's international image.

Project Architect Kerem Yazgan said that the complex will have an area of 100,000 square meters, will include a parking lot for 1,000 cars. The area of the multipurpose main arena will be 17,700 square meters, and the number of seats will depend on the type of events.

The Olympic swimming pool will have ten 50-meter-long lanes, and tribunes for 500 viewers. Next to the main multipurpose arena there will be 7 lawn tennis courts for training and the central court with high tribunes - for holding international tournaments.

Arena-Chisinau will be built within the framework of state-private partnership. Moldova's share in the project will be 200 million lei (US$11.7 million). And the project's total cost is 43 million euros.

The complex proper will cover an area of 10 hectares, but the State has withdrawn from agricultural use over 60 hectares of farmlands in the Chisinau suburban community of Stauceni - for the future development of Arena's accompanying infrastructure.
