MARIAN LUPU MAY BECOME ACCOUNTS CHAMBER CHAIRMAN

06 february, 2019

Chairman of the Democratic Party faction in the current Parliament, ex-Speaker Marian Lupu is the only candidate for participation in the contest for the post of Chairman of the Accounts Chamber. On Tuesday, the parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance approved his candidature for participation in the contest.

Interview with Lupu will take place at the committee sitting on February 6. The decision and the candidate's CV were transmitted to the Parliament Chairman, as well as to the parliamentary Standing Committee on Legal Affairs, Appointments and Immunity for approval. It is expected that Lupu will be appointed at the next Parliament sitting, which is planned for Thursday. This sitting may be the last for the current Parliament. The legislature's powers have long expired and it does not have the right to adopt organic laws, but still can adopt decrees, including on appointments.

The parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance announced the contest for the post of Accounts Chamber head after Veaceslav Untila, who headed it since 2016, tendered resignation in late 2018. He now is candidate for the post of one of 5 directors of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE). The new ANRE heads will also be appointed by the parliament in the nearest time.

Chairman of the Accounts Chamber is appointed by the Parliament for 5 years at the proposal of the Speaker.
