HEATING TARIFFS MUST BE LOWERED BY ONE-THIRD IN MOLDOVA - PSRM

14 february, 2019

The Party of Socialists maintains that heating energy consumers are overpaying for the centralized heating and therefore the tariffs must be lowered by at least 30%.

PSRM candidate Andrian Lebedinschi said at the Wednesday's press conference that Chisinau citizens are monthly overpaying around 300 lei per 1 Gcal, paying 1122 instead of 804 lei.

"In practice, this means that the pensioner is forced to give half and even more of the received pension due to the artificially overstated price for heating", the politician said.

According to him, the unlawful raising of tariffs leads to the growth of prices on goods and services of domestic entrepreneurs.

Member of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences Vitalie Postolatii supported the Socialists' point of view, saying that the lowering of the tariff is possible as the purchasing price on the Russian gas was lowered, but unfortunately this has not been done by responsible state structures due to absolute lack of accountability in the field of tariff policy.

"Also, the approval of tariffs should be linked to the real growth of GDP, key economy rate. Over the period of 2009 through 2017, this volume grew 1.4-fold, while tariffs - more than doubled, which is one more proof of artificial overstatement of prices for ultimate consumers", the scientist said.

He also stressed that tariffs for natural gas and electricity should also be lowered - by 5.6% and 17.7%, respectively.

The Socialist municipal councilor Vitalie Mucan said that against all the calculations, the ANRE may be preparing the gas price raising for the ultimate consumer and it is not excluded that after elections citizens will receive natural gas bills on another tariff.
