VEACESLAV PLATON SENDS OPEN LETTER TO MOLDOVAN LEADERSHIP

03 july, 2019

Moldovan businessman Veaceslav Platon, sentenced to 30 years in jail for financial machinations he rejects, has addressed via the Facebook with an open letter to Moldova President Igor Dodon, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Maya Sandu. He believes that any person could find oneself in his place, “accused of most ridiculous sins”.

“Now a moment of truth has come, when the law and justice must be the only judge of thoughts and deeds. Unfortunately, I am coming across the attempts by Plahotniuc and his stooges, remaining in Moldova, so far, to influence on the judges conducting my court cases. They are using the same old methods: compromising evidences, blackmail, bribing, manipulations etc. In the current situation, when the judiciary corps has been in dismay and confusion, Plahotniuc’s influence is remaining very strong”, wrote Veaceslav Platon.

He called the Moldova leaders to shield the judges, considering his cases, from pressing by Plahotniuc and his men, and to ensure the supremacy of law. He reminded that his case was recognized by the U.S. Department of State as a political case.

“I do not need indulgencies or loyal attitude, even if this is stipulated by the law in case of doubt. I only need a meticulous following the letter and spirit of the law. Due to the extraordinary character of my case and to the presence of shadow players, I believe that interference by the Moldovan State leaders for ensuring transparency and justice would be extremely appropriate”, wrote Veaceslav Platon.

Infotag's dossier: Veaceslav Platon was arrested on July 25, 2016 in Kiev (Ukraine), and already on August 29 he was extradited to the Moldovan authorities who had declared him as wanted internationally. He was delivered to Chisinau on board a private airplane, which, according to the lawyers, belongs to Platon’s former business partner Vlad Plahotniuc, Moldova’s master and ruler until mid-June 2019. Platon was charged of embezzling 800 million lei from Banca de Economii [savings bank] that went bankrupt in October 2015, and he was jailed for 18 years. In December 2007, Veaceslav Platon received extra 12 years for involvement in the embezzlement of three insurance companies’ assets totaling 205 million lei. Later on, an episode was added to that case – Platon’s criminal attempt to give a bribe to his prison guards. Also, Platon was reportedly involved in the laundering (through 3 Moldovan banks) of US$22 billion from Russia within the framework of the scandalous “Laundromat operation”. Veaceslav Platon is said to own (albeit indirectly) thick parcels of shares in leading Moldovan banks and insurance companies.
