NEW AUTHORITIES NOT GOING TO RESTRICT INDEPENDENCE OF CENTRAL BANK OR OTHER REGULATORS – PRESIDENT DODON

03 july, 2019

Moldova President Igor Dodon has assured the Monitoring Mission of the International Monetary Fund that the new Moldovan leadership is not intending to restrict the independence of the National Bank (NBM) or other regulators.

On Wednesday, the head of state held a meeting with the IMF Monitoring Mission led by Ruben Atoyan, and wrote on his Facebook page afterwards that neither the President nor the Government of Moldova are intending to limit the current independent status of the central bank or any other financial market regulators and, at the same time, stand for their maximum-possible transparency.

“Besides this, our experience of interaction with the International Monetary Fund and other leading world institutions give the possibility to conduct a responsible, professional and open dialog on all topical problems of our economy as well as of the social, financial, banking, fiscal and energy spheres”, wrote the President.

Dodon discussed with the Monitoring Mission many questions pertaining to bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the prominent financial institution, and “first of all we considered the perspectives of resuming of our full-fledged partnership interrupted under the previous Moldovan government”.

The IMF Monitoring mission arrived in Chisinau last week and will be working here until July 10.
