2ND KROLL REPORT MADE PUBLIC - FOUR YEARS AFTER US$1B BANK FRAUD

05 july, 2019

Four years after the scandalous one-billion-dollar bank fraud in Moldova, the Second Report, prepared by the Kroll detective agency of the USA, was made public in this republic on July 4.

Its Chapter 1 is dedicated entirely to the so-called 'Shor group', consisting of 77 Moldovan companies (in particular, AA Activ Broker SRL; Agentia De Stiri Novosti Moldova SRL; Agercom Grup SRL; Air Handling SRL; Avia Invest SRL; Classica Air SRL Klassika Asigurari; SA Dufremol SRL), which were the targeted recipients of the credit flows that were coming from Banca de Economii (BEM), Banca Sociala and Unibank in January 2012 through November 2014.

Those entities had received totally US$2.9 billion namely one billion from BEM, US$1.2 billion from Banca Sociala, and nearly US$600 million from Unibank.

Later on, the money was channeled through what is called in the Report "the main laundering mechanism" - a number of inter-linked accounts in two banks in Latvia, which were "under constant control" and enabled laundering of the means received by the said companies from the above-mentioned Moldovan banks.

Besides Ilan Shor himself, the 2nd Kroll Report mentions also the names of politicians, who are now Members of the Moldovan Parliament representing the Ilan Shor Party in the forum - Marina Tauber, Regina Apostolova and non-allied MP Viorel Melnic.
