0.2% DEFLATION RECORDED IN MOLDOVA IN JUNE

In June, prices in Moldova dropped by an average of 0.2% against 1.4% inflation in May. The cumulative inflation rate in 2019 reached 4.3%, and 4.4% over the past 12 months, which corresponds to the target corridor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) – 5% plus o minus 1.5%.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), seasonal decline in food prices caused deflation in June. Thus, food prices fell by an average of 1.1%: especially stone fruits – by 25%, potatoes – by 22.5%, vegetables – by 14.4%. The prices of citrus fruits went up by 20.9%, apples – by 11.2%, and berries – by 5.8%.

Prices for non-food products rose by 0.5%, especially for women’s swimsuits – 3.2%, petroleum products – 2.4%, sports goods – 2%, and cars – 1.8%.

As for the services that have risen slightly, tourist trips abroad are the most expensive – by 9.4%, railroad tickets – by 3.2%, taxi services – by 1.3%.

Infotag’s dossier: In 2018, inflation in Moldova was 0.9%, including 0% - in June. In 2019, the NBM expects consumer price index to be within 5.1%.
