PRESIDENT PROPOSES TO SUSPEND ANRE DECISION ON ELECTRICITY TARIFF RAISING

19 august, 2019

President Igor Dodon recommended to the Government to suspend the action of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) order on raising the tariffs on electricity for consumers.

He wrote on his Facebook page that he is considering a variant of raising the tariff on electricity, distributed by the Gas Natural Fenosa company, by 3.2%, but on August 16 it decided to raise it 5.58%.

“The agency administrative council was appointed by the Democratic Party before the parliamentary elections. In this way, it is clear that this raising was not grounded by clear and justified calculations, but represents an attempt to destabilize the situation in the country at political order of the previous authorities. In such conditions I recommend to the Government to take measures, implied by the legislation, for suspending the ANRE’s irresponsible and unjustified decision”, Dodon stressed, without explaining what measures he meant.

According to him, the agency, which must act regardless of political factor and ensure the process of regulating the energy market in strict compliance with the current legislation and the adopted methodology, is trying to shoulder the entire burden of irresponsible and populist power of Democrats on ordinary citizens and the country economy.

“Besides the challenging of the ANRE decision, I believe that is would be correct that the Government to propose a number of concrete measures on raising the level of social protection for persons with low income”, Dodon stressed.

He said that he will propose legislative initiative on making a number of amendments to the Law on Social Assistance, while at the beginning of September he will make a working visit to Moscow to continue discussions with leadership of the Russian federation to get discount on the natural gas imported from Russia.
