MOLDOVA TO CHALLENGE “ENERGOALIANS” COMPANY’S CLAIM FOR REPAYING ELECTRICITY DEBT

11 september, 2019

Minister of Justice Olesea Stamate regarded as unjustified the demands issued by the Ukrainian company “Energoalians” to Moldova on repaying a debt for electricity worth US$75 million.

At the Tuesday’s press conference she said that the Government will take protective measures and will not allow conducting the payment which has no legal basis.

The decision that orders Moldova to pay this sum was approved by the US District Arbitration Court of Columbia. The Minister reminded that in 2011 the Energoalians [which is connected with Veaceslav Platon, condemned for bank fraud in Moldova] directed to Moldova a complaint on repaying damage for the allegedly unpaid electricity.

The debt of US$20 claimed by the company given the inflation and interest reached US$75 million.

Stamate said that the Government addressed to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to investigate the circumstances of adopting the arbitration decision on this lawsuit in Paris and the US District of Columbia.
