PAY-TV SERVICES SALES INCREASED BY 5% IN MOLDOVA

Moldova’s Pay-TV services sales in, provided through cable networks and IP TV, accounted for 82.6 million lei in the first half of the year, which is 3.8 million lei (5%) more compared with the equivalent period of 2018.

According to the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), the overall growth was caused by the IP TV services sales by 13.6% up to 43 million lei. at the same time, the sales made by the cable network providers decreased by 3.2% down to 39.5 million lei, and the revenues obtained from the sales of services through MMDS technology – by 29.1% to 52.4 thousand lei. As a result of this dynamics, the ARPU for Pay-TV services increased by 2.1% and accounted for 41.3 lei.

As for the share of operators in sales: for the national operator of fixed mobile telephony – the Moldtelecom – it was 35%, Sun Communications – 16.4%, TV BOX – 14.8%. The total share of other operators is 33.8%.

Since the beginning of the year, the number of Pay-TV subscribers has also increased by 10.2 thousand (3.1%) to 339.9 thousand. This is also due to an increase in the subscriber base of IP TV network operators 171.2 thousand (+7.6%).

At the same time, the subscriber base of cable TV accounted for 168.4 thousand (-1%), MMDS technology – only 280 (-38.7%). But overall, the penetration rate of pay-TV services increased by 1.7 % to 36.8%.

By the beginning of July, 81 active Pay-TV service providers were operating in the market, claiming that 50.4% of the total number of subscribers used IP TV networks, 49.5% – cable TV, and 0.1% – MMDS. The share of digital TV subscribers reached 66.6% and analog 33.4%.
