MOLDOVAN AND TRANSNISTRIAN BANKERS AGREE TO KEEP SEEKING MUTUALLY ACCEPTABLE SOLUTIONS

The problem of closing accounts of Transnistrian enterprises in Moldovan banks became the central topic of discussion at the sitting of experts on bank issues in the OSCE Mission office in Tiraspol. The Transnistrian delegation was headed by Chairman of the Transnistrian Central Bank (PRB) Vladislav Tidva, while the Moldovan - Deputy President of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) Ion Sturzu.

According to the PMR foreign ministry's website, Transnistria's representatives maintains the problem has a political character, including due to the NBM's recommendations, and called on its leadership to take urgent steps for unblocking the situation, as well as to contribute ensuring the possibility of opening accounts for Transnistrian economic agents.

In response, Ion Sturzu said there are no claims to PMR enterprises, recognizing the Transnistrian businesses' right to open accounts in credit organizations of Moldova for implementing the current foreign economic activity. Meanwhile, the Moldovan side refused to conduct a reconciliation of data about Transnistrian enterprises which have accounts opened in Moldovan commercial banks. Meanwhile, according to the PRB, it is about 25 economic agents, while the NBM states that over 400 enterprises from Transnistria have accounts in Moldova.

The sides agreed to continue seeking of mutually-acceptable solutions on this sensitive issue, including taking into account the upcoming visit of an international expert on banking issues, who is going to arrive to Moldova at the invitation of the OSCE Mission next week.
