GOVERNMENT IS DEVELOPING SOCIALLY-ORIENTED 2020 BUDGET – PREMIER

17 octomber, 2019

The Government is developing a socially-oriented draft law on the 2020 budget, said Prime Minister Maia Sandu, speaking on television on Wednesday. She called this document a “budget of solidarity”.

“Economy endured difficult times and had no possibility to develop. Due to actions of previous authorities, people were not investing, but on contrary were closing their businesses, or trying to take these abroad, because they had no trust in the authorities. Despite all these difficulties, the Government comes with a “budget of solidarity”, by means of which it hopes to support people with low incomes”, Sandu stated.

According to her, the draft budget implies more social programs for low-income people.

“In the context of the program of assistance in cold season, we propose to raise this allowance to 500 lei per month from 350 lei in the 2020 budget. Also, we propose to raise the number of beneficiaries from this allowance. The draft law on budget implies a new program according to which low-income persons, in particular pensioners, who receive less than 1500 lei per month, can benefit from allowance for electricity. It is planned to cover 400 thousand pensioners”, Sandu said.

She stressed that the Government and its divisions introduced a regime of austerity. In particular, the new Cabinet of Ministers renounced to daily buying of flowers, expensive water, many expendable materials, cars and furniture for state institutions.
