NBM DEPUTY PRESIDENT SAYS HIS EVIDENCES WERE NOT INCLUDED IN INVESTIGATIVE COMMISSION REPORT

18 octomber, 2019

Deputy President of the National Bank of Moldova Ion Sturzu commented on the report, presented on Thursday by the parliamentary commission on investigating the one-billion-dollar bank fraud.

He said that his evidences were not included in the document.

The report contains a number of recommendations to the Government, the Parliament and the investigative authorities. In particular, the commission recommended to Speaker of the Parliament to start the procedure of dismissing NBM deputy presidents Ion Sturzu and Aurel Cincilei from posts, as they failed to take proper measures for preventing illegal actions on withdrawing money from banks. Within 60 days, the NBM and the Government have to consider the possibility of declassifying materials, connected with the banking system depreciation and to sign agreements with all the offshore zone countries on tax information exchange.

“After the completion of the work of the investigative commission, neither I, nor NBM Deputy President Aureliu Cincilei was invited for giving evidences. We were not informed about any accusations, though the commission has been working during 4 months and the NBM expressed complete openness and presented all the requested materials to the commission”, Sturzu said.

According to him, NBM Deputy Presidents were invited to hearings only on October 11, after the commission report was approved and published. Only MPs Alexander Slusari and Lilian Carp were present at the commission sitting.

“The information we presented to the commission was not included in the final report”, Sturzu said.

He reminded he was appointed to this post together with Aureliu Cincilei on July 12, 2013, when the situation in three banks was already very serious.
