PAS DEMANDS TO RETURN ‘SOLIDARITY PROVISIONS’ TO DRAFT 2020 STATE BUDGET

13 december, 2019

Parliamentarians from Maia Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) are demanding to return to the draft 2020 State Budget the provisions, which were prepared by the Sandu Government and which were called the “solidarity budget”.

Parliamentary PAS faction members said at a news conference on Thursday that the “solidarity budget” stipulated the repayment of an annual premium in the amount of 50% monthly salary to all public sector employees, the compensation of electricity expenditures for pensioners, the raising of salaries to teachers of schools for children with limited possibilities – up to the salaries paid in usual schools.

Besides, the PAS lawmakers propose to fix a minimal price on cigarettes, as this has been stipulated in the 2019 Budget but not included into the draft 2020 Budget. The PAS MPs believe that the absence of a minimum price may prompt vulnerable population groups to smoking.

The PAS deputies have proposed also to allocate funding for the program of studying of the country’s state language, to open Moldovan consular offices in Montreal, Sacramento, Turin and Bologna, to find means for the repair of a popular ombudsperson’s office and for modernization of the Parliament’s information system so as to install an electronic voting system.
