GOVERNMENT EXTENDS MORATORIUM ON CITIZENSHIP FOR INVESTMENTS

18 december, 2019

The Government decided on Tuesday to extend the moratorium on accepting applications on providing Moldovan citizenship in exchange for investments. The decision will enter into force on December 20.

Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Anatol Usatii reminded that on July 31, the Parliament adopted the law on four-month moratorium. According to the law, the Government has the right to extend the prohibition before the moratorium term expires.

"Given that the checking of the program of citizenship for investments has not been initiated so far, it is proposed to extend the moratorium for 2 more months, to have the possibility to take the final decision on the program. Over this period, the competent authorities will assess the possible risks for public order and state security, the risks of corruption and money laundering", he said.

According to the minister, only after getting reports from competent authorities, the commission on assessing the applications for citizenship in exchange for investments will present the final report with conclusions and recommendations.
