FOREIGN CURRENCY SUPPLY COVERS 96.8% DEMAND IN JANUARY

Moldovan economic agents’ net demand for foreign currency was covered by net supply from physical persons worth 96.8% in January against 97.3% a month earlier.

According to the NBM, this was due to the fact that the net currency supply from physical persons fell US$1.8 million (1.1%) – to US$168.3 million in the first month of 2020, while the net demand from economic agents - US$1 million (0.6%) – to US$173.8 million.

The exchange rate of the national currency against the US dollar changed to MDL17.4185 : US$1, which weakened the Moldovan leu 0.4%.

The currency structure of net supply from physical persons is still dominated by the Euro – 67.9% (-2.4%). The Russian ruble is the second – 10.8% (-0.7%), the third is the US dollar – 6.4% (at the same level).
