NBM APPROVES MEASURES ON SUPPORTING BANK CREDIT CONSUMERS DURING STATE OF EMERGENCY

19 march, 2020

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) Executive Committee took the decision which allows licensed banks flexibly administrating payment liabilities of physical persons, who face difficulties on paying for contract credits, in condition of the state of emergency.

According to the NBM press release, the decision will simplify the providing by licensed banks of some benefits on paying the existing credits by physical persons until May 31, 2020.

These measures may be applied by banks selectively and individually in accordance with their own possibilities, norms and contractual provisions. At the same time, the NBM establishes the need of careful bank administration of all risks for supporting the banking sector stability and protection of depositors.

The change of deadlines for payments and/or sums of payments on these credits until July 31 will not lead to their classification into a stricter category than the category on the day of adopting this decision. Meanwhile, it does not concern new credits.

The NBM stressed that Moldova's licensed banks have equal liquidity and capital, they are reliable and stable.
