IGOR DODON REDUCES EXPENDITURES ON PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION

27 march, 2020

President Igor Dodon has announced reduction of expenditures for the Presidential Administration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday that to overcome the consequences of the pandemic crisis, all state institutions should consider and put forward concrete proposals on reducing budget expenses to thus channel possibly more financial resources for the anti-virus struggle.

In his words, the Presidential Office has completed the first stage of its reduction plan – by over 4 million lei [nearly US$220 thousand], though the official presidential website wrote “by 3.5 million lei”. It is noteworthy that the Presidential Administration budget soared in 2020 to 35.3 million lei from 18 million last year. The head of state explained that this year, the Administration has included a number of subdivisions and services, which previously were subordinate to the Government.

The head of state called on all state institutions to consider giving up unnecessary purchases, reduce travelling expenditures and premiums to the personnel, and to carefully analyze other expenses. Dodon voiced hope that all state institutions will demonstrate a maximum-serious approach to his call to reduce spending.

“The anti-pandemic struggle may be long, exhaustive and very expensive for the State, so we must be responsible and economical to a maximum-possible extent. Our main forces and funding will be focused on support for the health sector”, stated Dodon.
