IGOR DODON SAYS THAT ALREADY IN AUTUMN MOLDOVA MAY RECEIVE MONEY FOR ECONOMY SUPPORT

10 july, 2020

In case of successful negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and of concluding a new 3-year cooperation Program with the IMF, Moldova may receive US$100 million already in this September, believes Moldova President Igor Dodon.

In the course of his traditional weekly live Q&A communication with citizens on his YouTube channel and social networks held every Friday morning, Dodon reminded that in the framework of the new Program of cooperation with the IMF, the republic may count on the Fund’s foreign assistance to an amount of US$550 million.

If the Program is signed and then approved by the IMF Board of Executive Directors, Moldova may receive the said US$100 million soon, and the money will be purposefully used for State Budget support.

In addition, already in the nearest days Moldova will receive the second tranche of the European Union’s macro-financial assistance in the amount of 30 million euros, and in the autumn – another 100 million euros.

Answering Infotag’s question concerning the expediency of placing Moldova’s sovereign securities at the international market with a profitability of 6% p.a., the President said that the Government has alternative variants of attracting money to support the population and economic operators.

“Besides the IMF money, Moldova will receive financial assistance from the European Union. Also, we are resuming negotiations with the Russian Government on receiving a State loan of 200 million euros. Our Government has the possibility to attract money on acceptable terms at the domestic market as well – from Moldovan banks”, said Igor Dodon.
