GOVERNMENT APPROVES LOAN AGREEMENT WITH JAPAN

03 august, 2020

The government approved a loan agreement for US $ 18.7 million with the state agency for international cooperation JICA (Japan). The adopted draft law will be submitted to parliament for ratification of the agreement.

The exchange of notes on the conclusion of this agreement confirms the openness of the Japanese government and the provision of a soft loan to the Moldovan government. The loan is provided for 40 years, its interest rate is 0.1%. The grace period of the loan is 12 years.

The loan funds are intended to support the program for the modernization of agricultural machinery and equipment.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Yoshihiro Katayama, said that agriculture is of great importance for the Moldovan economy and the welfare of the country's citizens.

“We have been supporting Moldova's agriculture for the last 20 years. We want the agricultural equipment purchased with the funds of this loan of Japan to be effectively used by Moldovan farmers,” the Japanese diplomat said.
