PRO-MOLDOVA CHALLENGES ANNULMENT OF 'LAW ON BILLION' WITH CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

22 december, 2020

On Monday, the Pro-Moldova Party, in the person of its leader Andrian Candu, challenged with the Constitutional Court the annulment of the 'law on the stolen billion' that was approved on December 16 by the Socialist faction and the Platform "For Moldova" group.

Pro-Moldova MPs are maintaining that the initiative by the Socialists, who have annulled the 2016 law on converting into a state debt the huge credit issued by the National Bank to three banks in 2014-2015 [the deal known as the 'one-billion-dollar banking fraud'] "is undermining the country's economic stability".

"The annulment of that commitment will ruin Moldova's relations with the International Monetary Fund and the future perspectives of funding for Moldova, and will jeopardize the country's economic security", Andrian Candu wrote in his inquiry to the Constitutional Court. The pro-Moldova leaders also presume that the annulment will influence on the market of governmental securities by raising the yield on them as on papers related to a high risk.
