EU DELEGATION: NEW SUPPORT PACKAGE DEPENDS ON IMPLEMENTATION OF KEY REFORMS

07 june, 2021

Moldova can count on EUR 600 million of assistance from the European Commission for the implementation of the country's economic recovery plan only if a number of mandatory conditions are met. According to Infotag, this is stated in the press release distributed by the EU Delegation to Moldova following a visit to Chisinau at the end of last week, Deputy Chairperson of the European Commission's Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Policy Katarina Mathernova.

“This package of support depends on the implementation of key reforms,” in particular, the EU noted “the need for a responsible and reform-oriented parliament and government in the Republic of Moldova”.

According to the EU, they must “respond to their citizens' aspirations for reform and step up efforts for much-needed progress in the justice and anti-corruption sectors.”

“In addition, the focus on recovery from COVID will also be a precondition for the payment of financial assistance available in accordance with the Economic Recovery Plan,” the EU Delegation noted.

As Infotag has already reported, the plan is designed for three years and covers five main areas: public financial management and economic governance; competitive economy, trade and SMEs; infrastructure; education and employment opportunities; reform of the rule of law and justice.
