10 june, 2021

On Thursday, the German government handed over to the Moldovan authorities humanitarian aid to prevent and combat COVID-19 in the amount of 10 million euros. As Infotag reports, President Maia Sandu, who attended the donation ceremony, said that this lot was received in response to her request to German Chancellor Angela Merkel during their meeting.

“Berlin helped us negotiate with the vaccine manufacturer Pfizer. The contract with her provides for the receipt of 700,800 doses,” the head of state stated, thanking the FRG authorities and taxpayers.

According to the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova, Angela Gunninger, since the beginning of the pandemic, the German authorities have sent assistance to Moldova in the amount of over 1 million euros.

The diplomat expressed confidence that the difficult period will be overcome both by both countries and by the European community as a whole, for which solidarity is inherent.

The head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Ambassador, Peter Michalko, recalled that the assistance was received within the framework of the "European Team" project.

“Joint response to a pandemic is an example of how they operate in Europe. Our common goal is to overcome the coronavirus crisis ... We are grateful to Germany, which is one of the main sponsors of the Covax platform,” the EU official stressed.

Infotag's dossier: The humanitarian aid includes, among other things, 100 ventilators (which will be supplied to all hospitals in the country and in Transnistria), 900 heart rate monitors, 7 million surgical masks, 4 million disposable protective masks.
