GOVERNMENT APPROVES BAN ON DUTY-FREE SELLING OF FUEL

11 iulie, 2019

The Government approved on Wednesday a draft law that implies the canceling of provisions on selling fuel without payment of the VAT and excise taxes at checkpoints at Moldovan border.

Minister of Finance Natalia Gavrilita said that it is exactly the legislative provisions on selling fuels in the duty-free regime that became one of reasons for suspending the program with the IMF. Besides, they do not provide equal conditions for taxpayers, who are selling fuel in the territory of the country.

Prime Minister Maia Sandu said at the press conference after the sitting that duty free shops imported goods worth 2.8 billion lei (US$156.7 million) since 2015, evading paying of taxes due to bad laws.

“According to the research, 75% of goods sold in duty free shops, were brought in the country by illegal means. More details will be published by the end of the day”, she said, promising to publish the declassified documents on this topic.

Sandu said that these documents mention the ultimate beneficiaries, among which several known persons.
