…CRITICIZES THE OPPOSITION
Chisinau. Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin offered a harsh assessment of the activities by Moldovan opposition parties and their leaders.
He stated over the NIT television last Friday night that “the opposition forces often display discontent over why the Communists would not nationalize major industrial enterprises and land, would not resort to terror, and would not restrict the media freedom”, and “I am frequently told that we are unusual, not true Communists”.
In his opinion, one of the reasons of this is that many people either forgot or simply do not know that the leading opposition parties in Moldova consist by 60-80% of the former members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, while in the present-day Moldovan Communist Party former CPSU members constitute only 18%.
“Such people as Ghimpu [Chisinau Municipal Council Chairman until mid-June] do not wish to surrender power. They grab it like children grab toys, and [Chisinau Mayor] Chirtoaca remains near them, playing toy cars. They [in the Municipal Council] wasted one year for an inter-party feud, and now they can’t work, either, for they are busy solving their petty questions”, said President Voronin.
“But, thank God, there exist people who get mature and change for the better, and a good example to this is Eduard Musuc, with whom we also used to have problems in the recent past”, said the head of state.
Voronin characterized the situation in the Gagauzia Popular Assembly as “a difficult case”, but “all the same Assembly deputies have to correct things there themselves”.
