UKRAINE GOING TO BRISK UP ITS TRANSNISTRIAN SETTLEMENT EFFORTS
Chisinau. In the nearest future, Ukraine will be holding active consultations with all countries whom the frozen Transnistria conflict concerns, Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Ogryzko stated at a recent news conference he held jointly with UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband.
Ogryzko emphasized, “The Republic of Moldova’s territorial integrity may not be violated… The consultations are aimed at carrying out active work in the context of the Plan proposed by President of Ukraine Victor Yushenko [aka Yushenko Plan] to resolve the Transnistria conflict. Currently, we are actively working to organize contacts at all possible levels”.
In his words, “Any decisions, like the ones taken with respect to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, are illegitimate, and will not be recognized by the international community, for they are in contravention of the international law and the United Nations Charter”.
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband shared his Ukrainian colleague’s viewpoint.
