UKRAINE MAY FIND ITSELF IN ANTIMISSILE DILEMMA – TIGIPKO
The unfolding of the United States’ antimissile defense system elements in Romania, and Russia’s possible stiff reaction to this are creating for Ukraine the risk of finding itself between the beetle and the block, presumes Sergei Tigipko, Chairman of The Strong Ukraine Party, the 3rd strongest candidate at the recent presidential election race.
He stated to the press that Ukraine cannot and should not watch indifferently a play of muscles between superpowers beginning near its southwestern border.
“Both the antimissile system deployment and, the more so, Russia’s military response are creating a threat to Ukraine’s security. And at least until Moscow and Washington have not reach an understanding on the issue, a zone of international tension will be existing next to us”, stated Sergei Tigipko.
He presumes the Ukrainians have the right to know in detail which potential risks the antimissile system unfolding in Romania may bring for Ukraine, the more so the system’s possible combat using.
“Fundamental international documents compel countries to avoid ensuring their security at the expense of the security of other nations. We must remind this to our partners in Washington and Moscow”, said Sergei Tigipko, who presumes that Kiev ought to demand more actively the creation of an all-European antimissile defense system that would involve NATO member states, and Russia, and Ukraine.
