GOVERNING ALLIANCE MAY DECIDE TO FORM VOTING BLOC AND NOMINATE COMMON PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
The 4 party leaders of the governing Alliance for European Integration are not ruling out completely the possibility of their forming a voting bloc and nominating a common candidate for the presidential post.
Democratic Party Chairman Marian Lupu said on the ProTV-Chisinau channel on Monday night that the Alliance naturally seeks to win a highest-possible result at the forthcoming parliamentary elections, and “proceeding from this main goal, we will analyze the efficiency of various formulas of our participation. We, the four AEI parties, shall reach also an ethical and behavioral agreement to ensure a correct and efficient election campaign”.
The Liberal Democratic Party leader, Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat presumes the present-day situation differs cardinally from the one that existed at the time of AEI formation last year.
“The Alliance will take an optimum decision. The chief objective at any election is to receive a possibly highest number of ballots so as to ensure a high working efficiency of parliament. Therefore, we have to think hard concerning standing for parliament all together or separately. As for a presidential candidate, this is not a very important question”, said Vlad Filat.
First Deputy Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, Chairman of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (MNA) Serafim Urechean is convinced the AEI will decide concerning its election participation formula only after the referendum, and only after the Communist Party’s presidential candidate is known.
Moldova’s Acting President, Parliament Chairman Mihai Ghimpu reacted painfully to the criticism voiced by the Liberal Democratic members of the Chisinau Municipal Council [city legislature] against his nephew, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, who is number 2 personality in the Liberal Party, after his uncle.
“If we continue to hear systematic criticism against the Chisinau Mayor being incompetent, then the Liberal Party shall work out a strategy that will be good only for itself, and subsequently, after the early elections, we’ll see how to form a coalition best”, said Mihai Ghimpu.
All of the AEI leaders criticized enthusiastically the initiative by former Minister of Defense and former Director of the Information and Security Service, Valeriu Pasat, to organize a national referendum on introducing the Orthodoxy fundamentals as a new school discipline.
In particular, MNA Chairman MP Serafim Urechean stated that a political interference is only bringing harm to the Orthodox Church, so the Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Vladimir, who is backing Valeriu Pasat, ought to tender resignation.
